What to Expect During Your First Massage
Getting a massage for the first time? You may feel a little nervous. That is normal. Most first-time clients tell us the same thing: "I wish I had done this sooner."
Here is exactly what happens, step by step, so you can walk in relaxed and confident.
Before You Arrive
Drink some water. Eat a light meal about an hour before, not a heavy one. Arrive a few minutes early so you are not rushed. There is no dress code. Come as you are.
If you booked a mobile session, make sure there is a quiet room with enough space for the massage table. Tejas brings everything else.
When You Walk In
You will be greeted and shown where to put your things. The room is warm, quiet, and private. Soft music plays in the background. You can ask to change the music or turn it off. This is your time.
The Short Health Form
Before the massage starts, you will fill out a short form about your health. This is important. Please mention:
• Any pain, injuries, or surgeries
• Health conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes
• If you are pregnant or might be pregnant
• Any areas you do not want touched
This information keeps you safe. Everything you share is private.
What to Wear (and What to Take Off)
For most massages, you undress to your comfort level and lie on the table under a large sheet. You are covered at all times. Only the area being massaged is uncovered, and it is covered again right away.
Many people keep their underwear on. Some take everything off. Both are fine. Do what makes you comfortable.
For Reiki energy healing, you stay fully clothed.
During the Massage
The massage usually starts with you lying face down. Tejas will check the pressure with you at the start. The oil or lotion used is unscented unless you ask for something else.
You do not need to talk during the session. Many people close their eyes and rest. Some even fall asleep. That is a compliment.
How to Talk About Pressure
This is the most important part. The right pressure is the pressure that feels good to you. Speak up any time:
• "A little lighter, please."
• "You can go deeper there."
• "That spot is tender."
There is no wrong answer. A good therapist wants your feedback. You will never hurt anyone's feelings by asking for a change.
Simple Etiquette
• Turn your phone off or put it on silent.
• Shower before your session if you can. It is not required, but it feels nice.
• If you need the washroom during the session, just say so.
• It is okay to say you do not want to chat. Silence is welcome here.
After the Session
Take your time getting up. Sit on the edge of the table for a moment. Drink water. You may feel deeply relaxed, a little sleepy, or pleasantly loose. All of this is normal.
Mild soreness the next day can happen after a deep tissue massage, like the feeling after a good workout. It fades in a day or two.
How Often Should You Come?
There is no rule. Some clients come weekly while working through pain or stress. Others come once a month for maintenance. Tejas will give you an honest suggestion based on what your body needs. No pressure to rebook.
